TRICHY: To address the shortcomings in door-to-door waste collection,
Trichy Corporation has planned to implement
QR code enabled door-to-door
waste collection process. The practice on pilot basis will be implemented in ward number 56 covering
Thillai Nagar, and will be expanded to other 64 wards here by observing the outcome.
Since residents complain about civic body about lapses in waste collection such as vehicles missing houses while collecting waste, Trichy City Corporation (TCC) will introduce QR code enabled waste collection to monitor the coverage of
door-to-door waste collection vehicles. Through the move, households in ward number 56 of K Abishekapuram zone will be given unique QR code each.
Sanitary workers arriving for waste collection will scan the machine-readable code with a reader. Subsequently, the data on houses covered under waste collection will be recorded and transmitted to officials. “QR code enabled waste collection will help us to streamline door-to-door waste collection to avoid waste collection vehicles skipping people and vice versa,” N Ravichandran, commissioner, Trichy City Corporation said.
Officials sources said that the proposal would be implemented within a month. Similarly, to promote recycling degradable kitchen waste within households, the civic body has announced that a gold coin would be given to three residents each every week for one year provided the residents successfully practice wet waste recycling methods.
Smart Trichy android application of civic body will be used as platform for residents to participate in the gold coin contest to submit the evidences of them indulging in waste recycling activity.
