LUDHIANA: The court of sessions judge Gurbir Singh on Thursday dismissed the application of former SSP of vigilance bureau, Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu to hear him before accepting a closure report of the vigilance bureau in the
Ludhiana City Centre case. The court had earlier given a clean chit to chief minister
Amarinder Singh, his son Raninder and son-in-law Raminder Singh among others in the case.
The case, alleging that a private builder was favoured during Amarinder’s previous term as CM, was filed in 2007 when the SAD-BJP was in power. But the state vigilance bureau had filed a closure report on August 19, 2017, saying its reinvestigation of the alleged Rs 1,144-crore scam found nothing to substantiate the charges against Amarinder, Raninder, Raminder and 33 others.
The former SSP, however, moved the court on July 17 this year, seeking to be heard. He pleaded that as a main complainant and investigator in the case, he was privy to certain important facts. Sandhu’s counsel Vijay Mahendru said the court ordered, “You have no right to be heard before accepting or rejecting the cancellation report. It is for the court to see”. He said they have applied for the order copy immediately and will move the high court.
