JIND: Demanding equal cash awards for junior and sub-junior players, several national and international sportspersons, including women, took out a protest march in Jind on Friday and handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
Holding banners, the sportspersons shouted slogans against the Haryana government. Talking to TOI, a wrestler, who has recently returned from the Asian Games at Jakarta-Palembang, said, “It is only Haryana sportspersons who can bring medals from international events. But they are facing a huge shortage of good coaches. Our request to the government is to appoint good coaches for the players so they can perform well.”

The protesters held a march under the banner of ‘Yuva Jagao Khel Bachao’ association and handed over the memorandum of demands to Jind DC Amit Khatri. The DC assured the players that their demands would be forwarded to CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

A leader of the ‘Yuva Jagao Khel Bachao’ association said, “Our request to the government is very simple. We are demanding cash awards and equal facilities for junior and sub-junior players. There is also a rule of providing government jobs to the international level players. The government must identify such sportspersons in Haryana and give jobs to them.”
