Realtors pledge support for Jewar farmers

NOIDA: Real estate companies have committed to providing support for skill development, employment and housing of the 2,200 farmer families likely to be displaced by the Jewar international airport project.
Following a meeting between members of the Credai (western UP) and district magistrate BN Singh on August 22, the real estate body sent a letter to the DM promising support.

“During our meeting with the administration, we learnt the reasons why farmers are not ready to hand over the land. Our commitment on paper is to endorse our support to the state in spirit and principle about our true intentions to support the farming community affected by the project. We are ready to support them in full with employment and housing,” said Amit Modi, vice-president, Credai (western UP).

“The land owners, villagers and farmers are concerned about their livelihood and rehabilitation. This should not affect the execution of such a prestigious project which is expected to benefit us all,” he said.

Credai has made a five-point promise in its letter to the DM. It has promised that affected land owners, villagers and farmers will get preference for recruitment in member companies. Credai Western UP is to arrange skill development programmes for unskilled land owners, farmers, villagers, and after successful completion of programmes, people can for opportunities with members and preference will be given to them.

For rehabilitation of land owners, villagers and farmers, Credai will offer 20% discount in residential projects of members. If the state government allots land, housing for the affected families would be constructed by the developers on a no-profit, no-loss basis.

An additional point states that builders’ group is ready to support the administration in any other manner. The administration has been negotiating with a section of farmers over land acquisition rates.

“Now we have the promise from builders in a written document and this speaks for itself about the kind of support that is available for the affected farmers,” said BN Singh, DM, Gautam Budh Nagar.
