GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and MCG on Thursday and Friday carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Chakkarpur
dam, sectors 27, 53, 54 and Sector 56/57 and cleared
kiosks and
slums that have eaten up the land in these areas.
While a dozen of slums that had encroached upon the Sector 56/57 road were removed, kiosks and stalls of street vendors that had encroached upon plots in sectors 27, 53, 54 and Chakkarpurwere razed.
The authorities have deployed more than 150 cops to avert any untoward incidents. The agencies have razed encroachments near
Chakkarpur dam and a storm water drain in a bid to prevent flash floods in the area during monsoon. “We are planning to carry out anti-encroachment drives in other areas of the city too,” said a GMDA official. MCG, on the other hand, has formed four separate teams in all four zones to remove encroachments in their respective areas.
“The teams have been given the responsibility to remove encroachments on footpaths, markets and roads. The teams will also work on removing illegal constructions,” stated a release shared by the corporation.
The residents have long been raising a demand to clear encroachments from the dam, an important green area in the city.
“It was impossible to walk on footpaths of the Sector 56/57 road which have been eaten up by street vendors,” said Sumita, a resident.
