LUDHIANA: In a bid to keep check on mushrooming of any industry manufacturing eatables near buffer zone on Tajpur Road
garbage dump, the civic officials are bringing a resolution where it would be proposed that no building plan for such industry would be approved. The resolution will be proposed at the house meet on
September 4, to implement the solid waste management rules of 2016.
According to the existing provisions, there is a complete ban on any construction up to 30m of buffer zone. According to the new proposal, the construction of any industry manufacturing eatables would not be allowed even beyond that restricted area, where other constructions are allowed. The assistant town planner (headquarters) S S Bindra said already no one can construct anything within buffer zone because it is not advisable to live near main garbage dump. “But the new proposal would be against the construction of factories dealing with eatables,” he added.
Meanwhile, medical officer (health), Dr Vipul Malhotra said the new provision was in accordance with the solid waste management rules of 2016 in city. He said the building branch will have to take in writing from applicants who will take permission to construct anything near buffer zone that they would not produce eatables in the factory. “If anyone is found flouting the norms, the MC would be empowered to seal or demolish their factory as per the proposed provisions.,” he added.
The house is also expected to give approval to the proposal that in case any MC employee gets injured during anti-encroachment drives or other official duties, MC would bear the expenses. The court case fee will also be borne by the civic body.
