Government employees staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate, here on Saturday, demanding the withdrawal of Contributory Pension Scheme and restoration of old pension scheme. They also demanded the implementation of principle of equal pay for equal work and regularization of contract workers and employees in all departments.
Addressing the gathering of employees TNGOs’ Association district president A. Kishan, appealed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to take the initiative to reintroduce the old pension scheme and become an example for others to emulate. He said that till recently only two States — West Bengal and Tripura — had continued with the old pension scheme but the latter after being taken over by the BJP-led NDA has followed the other States by introducing the CPS.
Since the Chief Minister stood out by making the State number one in all fields if he takes the decision in respect of the introduction of old pension scheme others might come forward. He also wanted him to prevail upon the Centre to scrap the CPS.
Association State secretary Amruthkumar, Narahari and Sampth were present.
