NEW DELHI: The newly-formed National Testing Agency (NTA), on behalf of UGC, is going to conduct National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine the eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & for Assistant Professor Both in Indian Universities and Colleges.


For the NET exam, the application process is beginning today, i.e., September 1, 2018. The interested and eligible candidates can register themselves online through the NAT official website nta.ac.in or ntanet.nic.in.

The candidates are required to apply online between 1st September 2018 - 30th September 2018. The fees can be paid up to October 1, 2018.

Till recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected Cities spread across the country.

From December 2018 onward, the UGC-NET (for Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor both), will be conducted by the NTA.

This year, the NTA will conduct the UGC-NET exam from December 9-23, 2018.

What is UGC-NET?

The UGC-NET exam is for the eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian Universities and colleges.

What is NAT's role?

The role of the NTA is limited up to the conduct of the NET examination and declaration of result. The e-certificates to the qualified candidates will be issued by the UGC-NET Bureau.

Paper format

Paper -1 is of 100 marks while paper - 2 of 200 marks. All questions are compulsory and will be in MCQ format. There will be no negative marking. The Test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.

Frisking is mandatory and candidates must cooperate

To ensure fair conduct of examination, frisking of the candidates will be done properly at main entry gate of the exam center. The candidates should report at the examination center 2.5 hours before exam starts.

Eligibility

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test.


The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
