NOIDA: At least 38 housekeeping personnel of the district hospital have threatened to sit on a hunger strike from Saturday protesting against a 23% decrease in their salary.
While the housekeeping personnel in-charge of cleaning and gardening at the hospital were being paid Rs 10,000 each by the Noida Authority contractor Advance Services Private Limited, the health department recently issued tenders to a new company for providing such services in about 12 hospitals.

Subhash Kumar, one of three supervisors of the housekeeping personnel said, “We met the CMS on Thursday and Friday but were told that we would either have to work on this salary or new people will be appointed in our place from Saturday,” he said.

He added that while the offer was of Rs 7613, the personnel will get only Rs 5,700 in hand after deductions of provident fund and employee state insurance fund.

The offer has triggered a protest among the personnel who have said that they will not allow any new people to work at the only government hospital in Noida. “We will not allow anyone else to work in our place,” said one of the personnel.
