Women’s body vows to donate eyes

Members of All India Marwari Women’s Conference today organised an Eye Donation Awareness prgramme here on Friday. The programme was attended by Director of Kashyap memorial Eye Bank, Dr Bharti Kashyap alongwith president of Eye Donation Awareness Club, Anuj Sinha, Joint Secretary Anand Mohan alongwith others.

Eye Donation head of AIMWC Sarita Sharma alongwith members Neera bathwal, Roopa Agarwal, Alka Sarawgi, Sushila Gupta, Geeta Dalmiya, Shobha Jaju, Anusuiya Newatiya, Manju Kedia, Beena Modi, Anu Poddar, Reena Sureka, Babita Narsariya and manju Lohiya played key role in the success of the programme. 

All the members of the organization filled up the eye donation form and took membership of Eye Donation Club during the programme. KMEB Medical Director Dr Bharti Kashyap said on the occasion that every year about 1.5 million eyes are either burnt or buried but 1-5 million people in the country are awaiting light in their lives due to cornea related ailments. “In our country about 1 lakh cornea are needed but only 15,000 cornea are available. If all dead persons’ relatives donate their eyes then cornea related ailments can be rooted out in just 11 days,” she said.

Dr Kashyap said that for eye donation any eye bank at any town or city can be contacted and registration can be done there.

Club president Anuj Kumar Sinha said that the body of person is of no use after death and if someone donates eyes after death one can see the world with new eyes.

During the ongoing eye donation fortnight media person Jai Prakash Jaiswal donated his father jagdish Prasad Jaisawal’s eyes after his death.

Notably, a painting competition is being organized at Oxford Public School on September 01 during the ongoing Eye Donation Awareness Campaign. A free eye checkup camp is also being organized at St Michael’s Blind School.
