End Left-wing extremism

Sir — This refers to your editorial, “Law is supreme” (August 30). Had there been no tenable and material evidence regarding their alleged Maoists links, the Pune police could not have arrested the five human rights activists, including Sudha Bharadwaj, Varavara Rao, Gautam Navlakha, Vernon Gonsalves, and Arun Ferreira.

The entire nation is aware that Left-wing extremism is a grave threat to national unity and security. This anti-national and unlawful organisation is unleashing ruthless violence and killing innocent lives in a few States. Their ultimate objective is to overthrow the democratic polity and undermine the Indian Constitution.

This unflinching growth and strength of the Moist outfits has been possible due to unstinting support from some Left-leaning intellectuals, who inspire, encourage, assist and even provide funds to them. They are avowed sympathisers of this outlawed organisation.

However, after an in-depth and impartial investigation, if these people are found guilty, the force of law would settle their fates. India is a vast country with lakhs of intellectuals and academicians and their wits and wisdoms are the national assets.
