A woman has been arrested for allegedly strangulating her 7-month-old daughter in south-east Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin, the police said on Saturday.
DCP (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said Adiba (27) had initially misled the police claiming that her daughter drowned in a bucket.
The post-mortem report revealed the cause of death to be fatal pressure on the neck. After sustained interrogation, Adiba confessed to killing her daughter.
Mentally unfit
“She was of the opinion that since her daughter’s birth, the family was facing medical and financial problems. She considered her death to be the only solution,” the DCP said.
The accused’s family claimed that she is mentally unfit and has been undergoing treatment for the same from IHBAS. She allegedly tried to commit suicide three months ago and wrote a note claiming that nobody loves her. The family also said that after the child’s birth, Adiba was continuously keeping unwell and her husband’s family called the child ‘ominous’.
