British High Commissioner enquires about stability of coalition government

more-in

The perceived instability of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in Karnataka figured in the talks between former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and British High Commissioner Dominic McAllister here on Friday.

Mr. McAllister met Mr. Gowda at his Padmanabhanagar residence and discussed various issues pertaining to the State. Though Mr. Gowda described it as a “courtesy” and routine meeting to assess the political situation in all the States in the country, he said the British High Commissioner had also enquired about the speculation on the stability of the government.

Mr. Gowda added that the confusion over various issues was sorted out at the coordination committee meeting. “There is no threat to the government, as the objective of both the Congress and the JD(S) is to keep the BJP from power,” he said.

Mr. McAllister also had a meeting with former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
