Two women from the Aasra shelter home in Patna have been found absconding since Thursday. It was from the same shelter home that two women were earlier declared brought dead in a hospital. Both the treasurer and secretary of the shelter home had been arrested and sent to jail.

The two women absconded from the third floor of shelter home on Wednesday night. However, the shelter home employees came to know about their absence on Thursday morning and informed the police. Later, the Rajiv Nagar police, under which the Aasra shelter home is located, and officials from the State Social Welfare Department reached there and took stock of the situation.

Social Welfare Department minister Krishnandan Verma said an inquiry has been ordered.

“Both the women are physically challenged but our job is to keep them in shelter home and protect them… I’ve asked the department officials to probe into it and action will be taken against those found guilty for the lapse,, Mr. Verma said.

Over 50 girls and women, mostly physically challenged, live at the Aasra shelter home. Earlier, the inmates had even tried to run away from the shelter home complaining of torture and bad food.
