‘No political ethics in Vidhan Parishad move’

The Freethought Party of India (FPI) has described the Cabinet decision of August 24 to create a Vidhan Parishad in Odisha as a move devoid of political ethics. The people who will be elected to the second chamber will dance to the tune of the Chief Minister for getting the fevour and hence, “Nothing but political immorality will be promoted in the State,” said FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire.

He further told that the BJD did not say a word about the Vidhan Parishad in its election manifesto of 2014. Thus it is not having the mandate from the people to go ahead with the creation of the Vidhan Parishad.

The party also referred to the stand of three prominent leaders on the second chamber like Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, now BJD member in Rajya Sabha, MA Kharabela Swain, president Utkal Bharat Party and Bhrugu Buxipatra, BJP leader, who described the BJD proposal of a Vidhan Parishad in Odisha as a “rehabilitation move”.

When Odisha is having many socioeconomic problems and reeling under back breaking poverty, the Government is ill-advisedly going to have an Upper House (Vidhan Parishad) in the State to provide status and luxury to a selected few at a huge cost to the State exchequer.  No standard law can be expected from them who are indirectly elected or nominated. They are bound to remain spineless, said an FPI Press release.
