A woman died and several others were injured after a two-storey building collapsed in Ghaziabad’s Vijay Vihar on Saturday.
The police received a call about the collapse at 11 a.m. following which teams were sent to the spot for rescue operations. “Eight persons were pulled out from the debris. A 65-year-old woman who had sustained injuries was rushed to a nearby hospital,” said a senior police officer.
Kaushalya Devi was then referred to GTB Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
“The relief operation is under way. No one else is suspected to be trapped. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained,” the officer added.
In another incident, another woman was killed while her husband sustained injuries after their house collapsed in Greater Noida on Friday, the police said on Saturday.
Second incident
Shakeela Begum (45) and her husband Qadeer (48) were trapped inside their house in Dankaur’s Bilaspur, the police said, adding that the incident happened around 10.30 p.m.
“The locals pulled out the couple and rushed them to a nearby hospital where Begam was declared brought dead. Qadeer was referred to another hospital,” a police officer said.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, the police added.
