All set for Special Olympics unified netball tournament

Two teams from SO Bharat and one from Sri Lanka to compete in the series

The first edition of the Special Olympics International Unified Girls Netball Tournament will be held on September 1 and 2 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Uppalam here.

Victor R. Vaz, national sport director of SO Bharat, told presspersons here on Friday that two teams from SO Bharat and one team from Sri Lanka would compete in the triangular series following the double round robin league format.

Drawn from many States

Team SO Bharat includes athletes from Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Delhi, Chandigarh and Punja.

Each team will have nine athletes, including persons with and without intellectual disabilities to team up and play.

The tournament is supported by Lions Club International and Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust. Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, will inaugurate the tournament at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
