Ola cabbie, 2 aides held for robbing passengers in garb of offering lift

The Delhi Police on Friday arrested an OLA cab driver and his two associates who used to offer lift to unsuspecting passengers and robbed them of their money, mobile phones and other valuables during night hours in Delhi's Dwarka.

“The accused, identified as Pritam (24), who is also a kingpin of the gang and his two associates, identified as Dinesh (24) and Anuj Kumar (22), began offering lift in the cab to stranded passengers at night. Pritam drove the cab while Dinesh and Anuj sat as co-passengers. After offering lift to passengers and travelling some distance, they waylaid and robbed them of money, mobile phones and other valuables during night hours in Delhi,” said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district.

“We had received several complaint regarding the robbery by OLA cab driver in the area following which The information was developed and a trap was laid near the spot. At about 8:30 pm on Thursday a cab Wagon R with three persons arrived at the spot. At the instance of the informer, the cab was surrounded by the police team and the three occupants were overpowered. During interrogation on the same nigh they revealed to have robbed an old age person of cash and mobile phone and dropped him near NSIT, Sector-3, Dwarka. The mobile phone was recovered from accused Dinesh,” said DCP.

“During interrogation it was also found that the kingpin of the gang Pritam has a penchant for good clothes and to party in pubs. After taking loan from acquaintance he purchased a Wagon R cab attached with Ola Company. However, the earnings dried up in paying loan amount and day to day expenditures. Notwithstanding paucity of money to fulfill his desires, he committed petty thefts in the beginning. His friends Dinesh and Anuj nurtured similar desires and inclinations. They had hired an accommodation and spent time together. Soon they formed a gang and began to rob people at night,” DCP added.
