A school principal in Bijnor who attempted to rape a Class X student, is still at large, Uttar Pradesh police said on Saturday.
The police are conducting several raids to nab him. It has also shared information with their counterparts in the neighbouring States and districts.
Drugged the victim
Additional Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastav said, “His [accused] mobile phone number is on surveillance. We have formed teams. Raids are being conducted at all suspected areas,” he said.
A senior police officer said that the accused principal had allegedly attempted to rape a Class X student on Thursday. “He had taken the girl to a medical store where he allegedly drugged her,” the officer added. On sensing foul play, the girl escaped from the store and raised an alarm for help. Locals in the area reached the scene.
However, the accused fled the spot. The girl reached home and narrated the incident to her family, following which a complaint was lodged. “An FIR has been lodged against the accused principal under appropriate sections of IPC and POCSO Act. He is still at large. A team has been formed and raids are being conducted to nab the accused,” the officer added.
Following the incident, locals had staged a protest and demanded stringent action against the school authorities as well.
