Vadodara: Panigate police arrested two men for printing and selling fake certificates of computer courses. The cops said the accused duo had been in this business for several years. A local court remanded one of the accused, identified as Deepak Patel, to one day in police custody.
Police said they learned that Patel, who runs a computer centre in the city, had been selling fake computer training certificates. “We sent in a cop as a decoy customer. Constable Tulsidas Bhogilal approached Patel and asked for a computer certificate dated 2017. Patel promptly agreed and the deal was finalized for Rs 700,” said M G Kardani, police sub-inspector, Panigate who is investigating the case.
“The certificate Patel gave Tulsidas was from a branch that had already closed down. We nabbed him and questioned him about the racket. He told us that he used to design the certificate on his laptop and paste the name and photo of the customer and send it to his accomplice, Harendra Gohil, for printing. Patel promised Gohil a certain amount to print the fake certificates,” Kardani told TOI.
Kardani said Patel used to source data of people in need of computer certificates from the other branches. He would to approach them and offer certificates without any training or exam. “The certificates Patel issued were of no use for government jobs. We also found class X and XII marksheets of the Delhi school board at Patel’s place,” Kardani said. He added that Patel was probably planning to print fake school marksheets as well.
“We are questioning him. As of now, only two people are found to be involved in the racket,” he said.
