Rajkot: Five senior officials at the Bhavnagar RTO were suspended on Thursday evening, for allegedly siphoning off tax meant to be collected on Enfield Bullet motorcycles.
Each bullet costs Rs 1,89,140 on which the RTO levies Rs 6,535 tax. “However, the accused would show Rs 600 as tax from each motorcycle on paper and siphon off the rest. They are accused of siphoning off tax from 82 motorcycles in the last four months,” said a press release issued from the Gandhinagar vehicles commissioner.

The accused were identified as M J Gandhi, B K Boria, M N Rathod, N A Patel and K K Mehta. N A Patel and K K Mehta are women.

In a similar case of tax embezzlement, the Gandhinagar vehicles commissioner’s office ordered an inquiry into a tax scam pertaining to trucks allegedly going on at Bhavnagar RTO.
