MOHALI: The MC has expressed its inability to control the
stray cattle menace in the city, given the staff crunch it is facing. The
civic body will now assign the work to a
private agency on contract, an MC official said. The MC added the proposal in the agenda of the MC house meeting scheduled for September 5.
On March 12, the MC demanded manpower to catch stray cattle but the local government denied the request, asking the MC to handle the issue with existing resources.
It has been learnt that the Mohali MC has only one cattle-catcher vehicle and six employees, including the driver to catch stray cattle. With the government refusing to supplement manpower, the MC has proposed to give the work to a private agency.
It was pointed out that the sanitation department catches stray cattle on a daily basis. However, the number of stray cattle is increasing continuously and it has become a major problem for the residents as well as the MC.
