Stocks ended a choppy session with mixed results as investors kept an eye on trade talks between the U.S. and Canada. Despite a White House-imposed deadline, talks concluded Friday without an agreement but are set to resume next week. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.01% closed less than 0.1% higher near 2,901.52, according to preliminary figures, while the Dow industrials DJIA, -0.09% fell by around 22 points, or 0.1%, to end near 25,965. A strong showing by tech shares made for a 0.3% rise for the Nasdaq Composite, which ended near 8,109.54. Despite the mixed finish, August was positive, with the S&P 500 posting a 3% monthly rise, the Dow advancing 2.2% and the Nasdaq rallying 5.7%.
