ATS: Dabholkar’s daughter was also on hit-list

MUMBAI:The state anti-terrorism squad (ATS), while seeking the extension of Avinash Pawar’s police custody, handed over to the special court the case diary where the investigating officer had noted down the names of people who were allegedly targeted by arrested terror suspects.

Those on the hit-list included rationalist Narendra Dabholkar’s daughter Mukta, NCP MLA Jitendra Ahwad and activist Shyam Manav.

While extending Pawar’s police custody to September 4, special judge V S Padalkar came down heavily on the agency for showing negligence during part of the probe into the case.

Pawar, a Ghaktopar resident employed at Mazagon Docks, was arrested on August 24 for his alleged role in the plot to bomb five cities in Maharashtra. He is accused of participating in bombmaking along with other arrested accused.

The ATS on August 9 had seized 20 bombs, pistols, poison, detonators, gelatine sticks and other bomb-making material from the residence and office of gau rakshak and Sanatan Sanstha sympathiser Vaibhav Raut who is in police custody.

Chief public prosecutor Jaisingh Desai told the court that Pawar along with other accused had recceed the targeted persons. In its remand plea, the ATS said that the accused also kept watch on their daily routines and residences. The ‘targets’ had allegedly commented on or made statements against Hindu religion and traditions .
