MANGALURU: The forensic science laboratory (FSL) report on the death of Shiroor Mutt seer Sri Lakshmivara Thirtha appears to have raised more questions than answers. Police have shot off two lists of additional questions to experts to ascertain the exact cause.

Kamal Pant, ADGP (law and order), said while the FSL report attributed the cause of death to cirrhosis, sleuths are in doubt since the initial medical bulletin put out by Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, where the seer passed away on July 17, cited food poisoning. “We’ve sent our queries to experts to aid the investigation,” Pant said.

Laxman Nimbargi, superintendent of police, Udupi, said the initial medical bulletin had caused a stir and raised doubts in the minds of all concer ned.

“We need a conclusive answer to lay those doubts to rest,” Nimbargi said. “We are yet to receive answers for the second set of questions we had sent.” The seer’s lawyer had expressed doubts about the FSL report.
