For Telangana that has made good progress since the last four years on the power front, including becoming one of the few States extending round-the-clock free supply to farmers, the task ahead would be to reduce the tariff.
Stating this, Special Chief Secretary-Energy Ajay Mishra on Friday said with the tariff being one of the highest in the country, the “plan in coming years [is] how we can reduce the cost of power, for all sectors of society.”
“The need is to look inwards, how do we improve the efficiency of energy companies,” he said, addressing the CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2018 function in the city.
Pointing out that transmission and distribution (T&D) losses were in the range of 13-15%, cost of generation was high and overheads around 18%, he sought the cooperation of the industry to energy management and efficiency practices.
A high tariff, compared to neighbouring States, also impacted competitiveness of the industry, Mr. Mishra said tracing the growth achieved by the State on the power front, which includes 24/7 supply to industries.
This is a major change compared to the situation of two days a week power holidays for industries and 6-9 hours of supply for farm sector that prevailed four years ago, he said.
The CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2018 was presented to over 150 companies. These firms through their out-of-box models and approaches had developed innovative and futuristic energy management initiatives and in the process facilitated enhancing their company’s bottomline, a release from the industry body said.
