Goa: Margao power woes continue for second day

Goa: Margao power woes continue for second day MARGAO: For the second consecutive day, electricity outages affected Margao town and surrounding areas on Thursday morning.

When contacted, superintendent engineer Reshma Mathews attributed the issue due to a problem in the incoming 220 KV power supply.

On Wednesday, Margao residents had to endure a horrid time owing to the four hour-long power blackout in the entire town and suburbs, even as electricity officials struggled to rectify the problem.

Sources within the department blame the frequent power failures on the outdated conductors, jumpers and other electrical spares that have not been maintained since the past five years.

Interestingly, power minister Pandurang Madkaikar also admitted to this fact when he inaugurated the 10 MVA power transformer at Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) substation at Rawanfond-Navelim on May 26 in the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Navelim legislator Luizinho Faleiro.

Meanwhile, former Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Savio Coutinho once again criticised the civic body for its failure to provide a power supply backup system during such situations.
