Coimbatore: Hard times to find a parking space at DB road in RS Puram is likely to end soon as the civic body will start work on setting up the multi-level car parking facility at the earliest in the area.
“Technical sanction has been obtained. Tender was floated for the project couple of days ago,” said a senior official from the Coimbatore Corporation. It is one of the ambitious projects of the civic body. It will be implemented under ‘Smart City’ project.
The bidders would be called, and a contractor would be finalized within a month.
The multi-level car parking facility would be set up at a cost of Rs 42 crore. The implementation time for the projects is about 18 months. It would be established at a total area of 11,600 square meter.
The civic body has decided to erect four-levels at the facility. It could accommodate more than 370 four-wheelers at a time, he added. There would be no human intervention at the facility.
“Workers will be deployed for gate keeping assistance,” he added.
Operation and maintenance (O and M) will be part of the tender and they will be in charge for it, said the official, adding that it is only after finalizing the contractor, the parking charges would be finalized, and the revenue will be used to maintain the parking lot.
