Crystal Tower Fire: Builder remanded to judicial custody for 14 days

Mumbai: Landlord-turned-developer Abdul Razak Ismail Supariwala was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the Bhoiwada Magistrate court on Thursday.

Supariwala was arrested for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the fire tragedy at Crystal Tower, Parel. Four people died and 26 people were injured in the massive fire which on August 22. He was produced before the Bhoiwada Magistrate court since his two-day police custody ended on Thursday. Supariwala hails from a family that owns huge amounts of pagdi (old tenanted) buildings in Girgaum, Charni Road, Nagpada, Agripada, Sukh Sagar, Teen Batti, Opera House and Dongri. He became a developer over a decade ago. Supariwala is director of Cine Properties and Finance Pvt Ltd since April 2009, whose registered office is at Dreamland theatre at Girgaum, Charni Road.

He is the landlord of Mansoor Ali Mansion, Girgaum, Tara Baug estate, Charni Road, Hari Shankar lodge (plot number 23), Girgaum, Ejas Developers Pvt Ltd, Dreamland theatre, two properties in Gaiwadi, Prophetic Realty Holding, Vijay Chambers, Girgaum and Pansons Trading Pvt Ltd, Girgaum.
