MANIPAL: A delegation from the Indo-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI) met a group of students here at the Manipal Edu building on Thursday and informed them of the new visa policy, tourism and higher education opportunities in Japan.
Ken Furuya, the Consul, Consulate General of Japan in Bangalore, felicitated a resident of
Udupi Karunakara Becha Shetty for his services. Shetty is among this year's foreign recipients of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays, given in recognition of their contributions towards the activities of the Japanese overseas establishment. Shetty served as an employee of the Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 1984 to 2015.
Talking to the students, Furuya and
Renu Gupta, Advisor to Consul, explained details of the relaxation of visa for education, business and tourism in order to further bolster collaboration between India and Japan and the introduction of 3/5/10 year multiple entry visas with minimum documentation requirements.
Anjana Seshagiri of IJCCI, shared with students the many higher education opportunities in Japan across fields of science and technology, mathematics, economics, politics, social sciences, culture etc. all taught in English. Japan has actively been promoting itself as a higher education destination for Indians. The
University of Tokyo has set up an office in New Delhi, to attract large number of Indian students and Japan is providing many attractive scholarships.

Japan National Tourism Organization talked about why Japan is a great tourist destination for Indians outlining possible itineraries for first time visitors across the Golden route of Tokyo, Mt. Fuji , Kyoto and Osaka.
