There are no streetlights starting from the intersection that leads to Irusappa Nagar on Suriya Narayanan Salai in Kasimedu, to the intersection of Veeraraghavan Road, posing inconvenience to road users.
On the opposite side of the stretch towards Royapuram, the lanes leading to Kasimedu beach and Suriya Narayanan Salai do not have any streetlights.
The arterial thoroughfare connects Kasimedu Harbour, Ennore, Minjur, Royapuram, Kalmandapam and Thiruvottiyur.
The stretch witnesses continuous flow of heavy vehicles, including container trucks, fuel tankers and trailer vehicles.
After sunset, vehicle users proceeding towards Ennore from Royapuram, and vice-versa find it very difficult to negotiate the stretch and face the risk of colliding with their counterparts.
“I make it a point to ride the bike at a slow speed as traffic becomes chaotic due to poor visibility. The high beam of vehicles coming from the opposite direction blinds motorists heading to Ennore and Broadway,” N. Nallasivam, a resident of Royapuram, said.
The illumination from the commercial establishments, diagonally opposite the intersections and on the lane towards Ennore, is not enough as the distance between the carriageway and the establishments is considerably huge.
Steps should be taken at the earliest to provide illumination at the intersections for the safety of the road users, a motorist said.
An official from Zone IV of the Greater Chennai Corporation assured to look into the issue and take steps to install street lights.
