CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has extended the deadline to submit self-declaration form with details of property to September 16, 2018. The earlier deadline was August 31.
A press release from the corporation said several petitions had been received to extend the deadline.

“The response is very slow. There are more than 7.5 lakh assessees, but we have only received a few thousands so far. We hope people will come forward and submit the details soon,” said an official.

The form available on the corporation website, ward offices and zonal offices will have to be filled with details of the property such as property type, nature of construction, address of the property, total extent of the land, its undivided share and other information.

This exercise is being carried out after the property tax was revised up to 50% for residential buildings and up to 100% for commercial buildings.

If the residents fail to submit these details, corporation officials will calculate the taxes based on the available data.

“The property sizes and extents may have changed over the years. The residents can submit petitions, and we will consider the changes to calculate the taxes,” said an official.

These self-declaration forms can be submitted online or at ward and zonal offices.
