Kerala floods: Donations to CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s relief fund cross Rs 1,000 crore

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The donations to the chief minister’s distress relief fund (CMDRF) crossed Rs 1,000 crore on Wednesday. A toal of Rs 1,026 crore has been credited to the account by 8pm. As many as 4.17 lakh people contributed to the fund through online alone.

After taking part in rescue operations, the Navy has come forward with a handsome donation to help in the relief of flood-hit people of the state. On Thursday, admiral Sunil Lamba handed over a cheque of Rs. 8.92 crore to CM Pinarayi Vijayan here.

Mathrubhumi printing and publishing company contributed Rs 5 crore to the CMDRF. MD MP Veerendrakumar handed over the cheque to the CM. Joint MD M V Sreyams Kumar donated his one month’s salary of Rs 20 lakh to the fund.

Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) vice-chancellor Dr R Chandra Babu handed over a cheque for Rs 1 crore to Vijayan as the first instalment of the contribution from the KAU to the CMDRF.

Chairman and MD of Oriental Insurance Company, AV Giriraja Kumar handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the CM on Wednesday.

Bhima Jewellers donated Rs 2.03 crore to the CMDRF. Group chairmen B Girirajan and B Govindan handed over the cheque to Vijayan.
