BENGALURU: The businessman who gouged out his father’s eyes on Tuesday, after he was denied a share in his family property, faced a tough time when police produced him in court on Wednesday. P Abhishek Chetan, the accused, was heckled and damned by the public and a section of advocates for committing the dastardly act.

JP Nagar police produced Chetan, 42, before a city court on Wednesday morning. With news spreading in the Nrupathunga Road court, lawyers and their clients hurled expletives at Chetan. A few of them shouted, “You will pay for what you did.”

Chetan was arrested on Tuesday for having gouged out his father Paramesh’s eyes at their residence in Shakambarinagar, Banashankari, south Bengaluru. He had been fighting to get his father’s properties after his mother, Vasanthi, passed away a month ago. Paramesh, a retired government employee, refused to oblige, saying he won’t do so till he is alive. A verbal dual between the two turned ugly when Chetan attacked Paramesh.

A police officer who brought Chetan to the court, said: “Everyone knew what he had done to his father. Women, and elders cursed him severely. Young advocates felt Chetan was more cruel than notorious criminals.” The court remanded Chetan in two-day police custody. The officer added: “When we were leaving the court hall, more people rushed towards the accused and cursed him. We quickly escorted him back to the police jeep.”
