In order to help pre-university students in Kodagu who have lost their textbooks in the floods, the Department of Pre-University Education is setting up book banks in government PU colleges.
C. Shikha, director of the department, said the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education would monitor this programme. College principals were collecting used textbooks from alumni. These would later be distributed to the students.
Meanwhile, with several students relocating to different parts of the State after the floods, government colleges from all districts have been directed to admit these students. “We have received requests from students who want to relocate to their relatives houses as their houses have been damaged and belongings lost. The move is intended to help such students,” she said.
The department has also found that three private PU colleges were damaged in the floods and the walls of one government college developed cracks. “According to rules, the principal has the power to carry out minor repairs of upto one lakh and the DDPU can approve renovation or procurement of necessary items upto ₹25 lakh,” she said.
