Dehradun-based activist group Gati Foundation and Bengaluru- based Janagreh Organisation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together for the development of the urban areas of Dehradun. After the MoU was inked, Gati Foundation has become the first member of the Network for City System Reforms (NFCSR).

Under the agreement, the two organisations will support the government agencies in the implementation of urbanisation development schemes in Dehradun.

This covers mainly governance, budget, citizen grievances, financing and transparency in areas where local bodies need civil assistance. The agreement, signed by both the organisations, will work till December 31, 2020.

Dwelling on the need of urban development, the founder of Gati Foundation Anoop Nautiyal said, “Despite Uttarakhand being a hilly state, the speed of urbanisation is quite high. In such a situation, there is a great need for systematic urbanisation.”

Head of Janagreh Organisation Vivek Nayar said, “Today the biggest problems of cities include roads potholes, continuous traffic jams, air pollution and lack of affordable housing system. Giving better living facilities in urban areas should be the priority of urban governance. Unless urban governance seeks a permanent solution to these problems, these issues will continue to rise again and again.”
