A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his pregnant wife to death around five days ago and dumping her body in a drain in Crossings Republik after stuffing it in a sack, the police said.
The police said that the arrested accused has been identified as Rajeev Poddar, who hails from Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad. They said that Rajeev was arrested near ABES College.
Body found on August 25
A senior police officer said that the body of a 28-year-old woman was found stuffed in a sack in a drain in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad on August 25. The matter came to the fore after some people noticed the body and informed the police about the same.
“Locals informed the police, following which the body was sent for a post-mortem,” the officer said, adding that later an identification drive was carried out. Details and description of the body were shared with neighbouring districts’ and States’ police.
Two days after, the woman was identified as Sanjana, the wife of Rajeev.
The police registered a case under IPC Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence) against unidentified person and launched a probe.
“Upon investigating the case, it was revealed that the woman was murdered by her husband after a heated argument broke out between them on the night of the incident. The accused told the police that his wife was pregnant and the fight was initiated over the unborn child. Following the argument, the man stabbed his wife to death in a fit of anger,” said Manisha Singh, Circle Officer-I, Ghaziabad.
