NEW DELHI: Two people were killed while three were in a critical condition after two men went on a stabbing spree in Mangolpuri on Wednesday night. The masked attackers were armed with a pistol and machete, and had come to I-block of Mangolpuri to attack their rival to avenge their friend’s murder.
However, when the men could not find their target, they started firing multiple rounds in the air and stabbing bystanders. The victims, Dinesh (32) and Karnveer (43) were neighbours, and had stepped out for a walk after dinner. The injured, identified as Irshad, Vinay and Suresh, remain under medical observation.

Additional DCP (outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar confirmed the developments and said that a case under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and sections of arms has been registered against the suspects. A few youths were detained for questioning.

Locals said that two youths with a pistol and a machete went to the house of one Rancho and fired gunshots in the air. However, after finding the house locked, they went away from there and stabbed multiple people who came in front of them. They first encountered Irshad, who was walking back to his home. After stabbing him, the suspects took a turn back into the lane of I-block and saw Dinesh and Karnveer, and stabbed them multiple times. Later, they went to M-block and stabbed Suresh.

Investigating officers said that the incident is the fallout of a previous brawl between two youths — Abhishek and Prince. The two had fought on August 21, in which Abhishek was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Enraged by his death, his friends decided to plot revenge and went to Prince’s brother’s house to kill him. Cops clarified that none of the victims in the attack had anything to do with the rivalry between the two factions. Locals said that Karnveer was planning to move from the area and had gone to see a property on Wednesday. He is survived by three sons and a daughter. Dinesh worked as a security guard and lived with his brother-in-law.
