APSC Scam – Rakesh Pal’s Bail Plea Rejected Again

Guwahati : A special court in Guwahati today rejected the bail pleas of main accused Rakesh Pal in the infamous Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash for job scam. Rakesh Pal requested for bail in a FIR filed against him in Bhanagagarh Police station in the APSC scam. Another officer arrested in the scam, Basanta Doley, also found his bail being rejected by the special court. The special court termed the case as a ‘White Collar Crime’ and said that crimes like these demolish a state’s economic and social structure. Previously, the Supreme Court termed crimes like the APSC scam as ‘White Collar Crime’ and on basis of the same judgement, the special court in Guwahati rejected the bail plea. The court also said that bail cannot be approved to these criminals unless whole investigation process in completed in the case.The investigation into the scam has so far resulted in dismissal from service and arrest of altogether 46 Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied services officers in who were recruited by the APSC while Pal was the chairman of the Commission. Police claimed that forensic examination of handwriting samples of these officers revealed that they wrote their answer scripts anew after the actual written recruitment examination had been conducted by the APSC. The fresh answer scripts were allegedly supplied to them at the behest of Rakesh Pal by his brother who used own a printing press in the city. The brother of the deposed APSC chairman is now absconding. The police investigation team suspects that huge amount of money were paid by these job aspirants to get the plum government jobs.
