GURUGRAM: Two
members of
Kranti gang — Jitender alias Pinnu and Vijay alias Babbar — who have two dozens of cases filed against them were
arrested on Tuesday. The crime branch of Gurugram police, which nabbed the two, claimed they were planning to revive the
gang after their leader Rajesh Bharti was killed in a
police encounter.
Also, three of their gang members — Sanjeev Vidrohi, Umesh alias Don and Veeresh Rana — were killed along with Bharti in the Delhi Police encounter at Chhatarpur in June. Another member, Kapil, was injured and sent to jail after treatment.
Jitender (25) and Vijay (25) were also at the Chhatarpur farmhouse along with other gang members but they had left for Gurugram a day before the encounter. According to police, the duo had fled to Rajasthan after hearing about the encounter, and then reportedly shifted their base to Himachal Pradesh. “They stayed in Himachal for a few months, and started selling women’s garments. Last month, they got in touch with a few people to arrange pistols and returned to Gurugram,” said a senior police officer, adding that they were trying to revive the gang under the leadership of Kapil, who is now in jail.
Inspector Manoj Verma, who is part of the investigation team, said the two had been active criminals for long and had committed a series of crime in 2017-18.
“They committed most crimes in Gurugram and Delhi,” said Verma. The gang mainly used to target bookies for extortion. “They used to collect protection money from bookies and in the past they had even looted a few bookies. They also issued extortion threats to several people,” said Verma, adding that in Gurugram they were mostly engaged in snatching and vehicle lifting.
Jitender, a Class 11 passout, entered into the crime world by committing a chain snatching in 2011, and later joined Kranti gang. In the past, he has been in Tihar and Karnal jails for around three years. In 2017, he came out of the jail and became one of the active members of Kranti Gang.
He committed a series of crimes in Delhi and Haryana upon the direction of Bharti and Vidrohi. He has been threatening businessmen and accepting “protection money”.
Vijay was first arrested in 2016 after a brief encounter with police when he was trying to steal an SUV
in Hisar. Within a few months, he escaped from Hisar jail with the help of gangster Sanjeet Vidrohi, who was also in the same jail. After coming out of the jail, he joined Kranti gang. The accused were produced in a Gurugram court on Wednesday and were sent to two-day police custody. “We will get more details about the crimes they committed during the interrogation,” said Verma.
