SC, ST panel chief conducts public inquiry on the incident

Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State SC, ST Commission Karem Sivaji on Wednesday asked the Jaggampeta police to take steps to arrest the accused in the attack on Kate Bobby, a Dalit from Katravualpalli village, within 48 hours. He said that the government would bear the medical expenses of the victim, besides ensuring other benefits. He conducted a public inquiry at Katravulapalli village on the issue of reported attack on Bobby, as the Dalits from the villages were accusing the upper caste people of the village of masterminding the attack.

Police picket

After eliciting information from the Tehsildar and the Sub-Inspector, Mr. Sivaji found fault with the revenue officials for not paying attention towards the village where over 10 cases of atrocities on Dalits were reported so far. He advised them to make frequent visits to the village and take necessary steps to infuse confidence among the Dalits. He asked the officials to post police picket in the village till the normalcy was restored.

Aid given

Later, he visited Mr. Bobby the Government General Hospital here and handed over a cheque for ₹50,000. He said that a sum of ₹1.5 lakh would be given in the next instalment and the sum could be used for medical and family expenses. He asked the doctors to render better treatment to the victim.
