CHANDIGARH: Police on Tuesday night arrested a couple for the death of their one-month-old baby girl, charging them with
culpable homicide.
Sub-divisional magistrate (east) Arjun Sharma had directed the police to register the FIR, calling the death of the baby unnatural.
The post-mortem report had indicated the girl died due to a brain injury caused by a blunt force. Pooja and Vishal were also booked under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC. A local court remanded them in judicial custody.
On August 14, the two had buried their daughter in a hush-hush manner at the cremation ground in Hallomajra. After a few days, the child helpline had received an anonymous call claiming the parents had killed their child. The helpline had investigated the matter and submitted its report to the Sector 31 police.
Some neighbours had even claimed baby's head was stuck against the wall.
