There was a very famous face dishing out the pies, pasties and cakes at a North Wales bakery this week.

Comedian Johnny Vegas was spotted at Central Bakery in Beaumaris, Anglesey and the star was so taken by the place he popped behind the counter to give the staff a hand and the punters a bit of shock.

The funny man, who looked significantly leaner, seemed far from tempted by the treats - bar one old Welsh favourite.

Bakery owner Claire Roberts couldn’t believe her eyes when the Benidorm star visited the store: “I’d heard he was here on holiday and one of my staff mentioned she’d seen him walk past the shop window.

"When he walked by again and we realised it was him, we stopped him to ask for a photo with the staff.

"But as he was posing behind the counter a customer came in, and that was it, he was waffling on about gluten-free and all sorts.

"The woman, I think she had an idea of who he was - she looked to one of our staff who nodded.

"He was great fun, he was just having a laugh.

"I told him he had to take a souvenir, so I said he could have some Bara Brith - but only if he could pronounce it perfectly.

"To be fair, he did a pretty good job, and he went off down the street shouting BARA BRITH, BARA BRITH!"

Vegas is holidaying with his family on Anglesey, with the star taking to Twitter to share his hilarious antics with his mother in tow.

However the husky voiced star recently shocked fans after an “almost unrecognisable” weight loss transformation.

Just last month the 47-year-old, real name Michael Pennington, shared a slimmed-down selfie on his Twitter account.

He wrote: “It’s a far cry from a Thatto Heath fry up....ooh you’ve changed Vegas.”

The star attributes his impressive transformation to a healthier diet and clean eating.
