This Rs 2,00,000-plus speaker can be rolled to adjust its volume
While the smartphone market has seen quite a few design innovations in the past, other consumer electronics have not exactly been blessed with the restyling.

But that has changed a little with the launch of Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Edge speaker.

The body of the speaker is a giant circular touch sensitive aluminium case that lights up when someone approaches it courtesy its proximity sensors.

Users can perform functions such as start, stop or skip tracks with a simple tap on the surface. To control the volume, users will have to gently roll Beosound Edge forwards and backwards to increase and decrease the volume; softly to change the volume moderately, while a stronger touch will change it more dramatically.

Measuring 50.2cmx13cm, behind the black matte fabric top, the speaker houses an active base port for clarity at different volumes, a 10-inch woofer for powerful bass, two 4-inch midrange drivers, two tweeters and six class D amplifiers for control and balance. The matt black fabric cover can be easily exchanged as "Bang & Olufsen will introduce new on-trend fabric colours over time."

The speaker comes with a 360-degree room filling sound from both sides of the speaker, and courtesy the Directional Sound Control, users can define the direction that the sound radiates creating two acoustic fronts. Using the Bang & Olufsen app, users can ultimately create an active listening area and a more passive listening area in the room in which the speaker is placed.

The Beosound Edge speaker has been created in collaboration with globally acclaimed designer Michael Anastassiades, and can be placed on the floor or on the wall. The rolling for volume control, works even when the speaker is placed on the wall mount.

“With Beosound Edge, we are bringing forward a timeless design masterpiece that inspires the imagination with an interaction and experience never before seen in home audio. From a distance it is monolithic and discreet, hiding everything that suggests technology, yet it is unforgettable in sound performance punching above and beyond what you would expect for the size of the speaker”, said Bang & Olufsen Concept Manager Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre.

It is compatible with AirPlay 2 and Chromecast2 and offers Bluetooth support as well as voice interaction when paired with either a Google Assistant-enabled speaker, such as BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2, or an Amazon Echo device.

All of these features can be yours, if you can wait till mid-November and are ready to shell out $3,500 (approximately Rs 2,46,800)
