The Vellore Additional Fast Track Court on Wednesday awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment to a 30-year-old man for killing his 60-year-old father.

Sources said that Ramesh, son of Perumal of Katharikuppam near Gudiyattam, married a girl from another caste. Following this, Perumal refused to allow Ramesh into the house and also told his relatives not to maintain contact with Ramesh.
Ramesh, who was staying with his wife in the same village, asked 20 cents of land as his share in the property that his father owned. However, Perumal told him that he would not get give him any share in the property since he married a woman from another case. This led to frequent quarrels between the father-son duo.
A similar quarrel broke that out on February 13, 2016 finally resulted in fisticuffs between Perumal and Ramesh. In a fit of rage, Ramesh hacked his father to death with an axe. Subsequently, Ramesh was arrested by Gudiyattam town police and lodged in the Vellore central prison. When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, Ramesh was convicted and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment apart from Rs 1,000 fine.
