Born on 24 September 1534, Guru Ram Das became the fourth of the ten Gurus of Sikhism. Named Bhai Jetha at birth, Guru Ram Das was orphaned at the early age of seven and therefore grew up with his grandmother in a village. He later accepted Guru Amar Das as his mentor and grew up to be his successor. Guru Ram Das is credited to have contributed 688 Shabads/Hymns to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He was also a crucial part of designing the Golden Temple and the town of Ramdaspur which we now call Amritsar.
