Google's Chrome OS may get this feature before Apple macOS

Apple has already brought face recognition in its iPhone handsets and could soon bring it to large screen devices as well. But its rival Google might be a step ahead as the firm is now said to soon include face recognition into its Chrome OS platform. That means those who are using Pixel Book or Chromebook may soon have a new security login feature. For now, Chromebook users can login using their Google account passwords or a PIN.
Although this feature has not been confirmed by Google yet and has not been rolled out, the company dropped hints in a new code commit in Chromium. As found by the Chrome Story website, the feature seems to use a specialised hardware for it to work. The face recognition login process is said to be similar to what one does with the Windows RealSense camera.
However, since there are no rumours of Google introducing biometric login process in its Chrome OS, one may not jump to conclusions just yet. But who knows, maybe this feature show up in second-generation PixelBook laptop that is said to arrive later this year.
If this happens, Google will be ahead of Apple with this technology as the latter is yet to bring face recognition login to its MacBook lineup or even the iPad line up for that matter. For now, the MacBook Pro series is the one that has received TouchID biometric login. The feature debut in Apple iPhone 5S.
Google is said to launch its next-gen PixelBook device alongside the rumoured Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL smartphones in October. Although the launch date is not yet confirmed, the rumours indicate towards the October 9 launch. The launch might be around the same time when Apple usually introduces its new Mac devices including laptops, desktops and compact PCs.
