Initiates inquiry based on complaint

Jet Airways said on Thursday that it is co-operating with the Registrar of Companies regarding an inquiry made by it.

The airline, however, dismissed media reports stating that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has ordered an inspection of books of Jet Airways as ‘speculative.’

“Jet Airways has received communication from the office of Registrar of Companies seeking comments/ clarifications and explanations in response to a complaint received by their office. The company is taking necessary steps to submit its response in this regard,” the airline said in a statement.

The Ministry had earlier initiated a preliminary inquiry against the airline after it deferred the announcement of quarterly results.

The Centre had sought details from the airline and its auditors on the issue.

On August 9, the airline’s board delayed the announcement of unaudited financial results for the June quarter. The results were finally announced earlier this week which showed that the airline had incurred a loss of ₹1,323 crore.

Cost-cutting measures

The airline also announced plans to help revive the carrier from financial losses by cutting costs by more than ₹2,000 crore over two years, improving pricing, better inventory management, fleet simplification and leveraging the Jet Privilege programme.

It also plans to raise capital through sale and lease back of a part of its wide-body fleet and raising fresh equity.
