Seb Monsour charged with $5 million fraud

Real estate chief executive Sebastian 'Seb' Monsour has been charged with one count of major and serious fraud by Queensland Police, totalling $5 million.

Mr Monsour is a 44-year-old real estate executive and the brother-in-law of former Queensland premier Campbell Newman.

There is no suggestion Mr Newman was involved in the alleged fraud.

On Thursday, detectives from the financial and cyber crime group charged Mr Monsour with a $5 million fraud, alleging he accepted the payment from an overseas investor for three Australian investment funds.

They allege the money was not invested and Mr Monsour had no authority, licence or credentials to manage investments.

Mr Monsour will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 20.
