Armed police swooped on a block of flats reportedly following claims of a man with a shotgun.

Officers, including some with dogs, swooped on John Street in Rhyl shortly before 7.30am this morning to deal with an “alleged threat of violence made to an individual”.

The road was blocked off for several hours while police carried out their enquiries.

No arrests have been made and nobody was reported injured.

A resident who lives at the block of flats that was evacuated claims officers told him they had received reports of somebody with a shotgun in the building.

The person, who did not want to be identified, said: “All residents living in the building were evacuated at around 7.30am.

“When the police knocked my door, I had been asleep from a night shift.

“All other residents were already in the street.

“Apparently there was a disturbance in the building early hours and someone had been reported as to having a shotgun in the building.

“There was two armed police at my door, while others were doing flat to flat search asking questions.

“I was surprised to see them, but they were really nice and just asked my date of birth and if i was known to police.

“They told me about the shotgun. They were in the building for a while.”

The road reopened at around 10am.

Police did not confirm accounts of someone with a shotgun in the building.

Supt Paul Joyce of North Wales Police , said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area to contact us.

“No arrests have been made and thankfully no one has been hurt.”
